Area Leader

Position: Team Lead
Reports To: Production/Fabrication Supervisor
Department: Production/Fabrication
Accountabilities
Position exists in the service, production and technical job areas.The team lead should be able to receive and issue basic job instructions from his/he supervisor and communicate them to fellow associates in an appropriate and understanding manner.
Maintain production level of machinery in order to meet the needs of outgoing demands.
Use basic problem solving skills using five why's.
Leads team to achieve metric goals and SQDC.
Drives standard work to eliminate waste and abnormal work activities.
Train associates to perform their job function.
Essential Functions:
Assist and supports supervisor in achieving department objectives and goals.
Provides direction to associates.
Maintains production rate and monitor activities on site during production to ensure adherence to ethics and safety procedures.
Ensures that department associates have the parts, equipment and tools to adequately do their jobs.
Fills in for associates during their absence from work.
Provides administrative support.
Maintain focus on continuous improvement through the application of CBS (Crane Business Systems) principles.
Monitor the operation of manufacturing tools, machinery, or systems.
Assigns daily tasks and work assignments.
Recommends manufacturing methods, procedures and changes in line or departmental layout.
Establishes and monitors safe working conditions and practices.
Trains employees and performs daily interactions with team members.
Develop and maintain required production reports and records.
Assist Supervisor with training and development plans for the team.
Adhere to all Company policies, safeguard the company's interests and act in an ethical and legal manner as well as report all violations of Company policies and procedures to appropriate management.
Expectations
Safety
Ensure all personnel in area of responsibility to wear required safety equipment at all times. (Notify supervisor if additional PPE is necessary).
Inspect department daily for potential hazards. Make improvements to prevent any injuries (near misses/OSHA recordables).
Identify and drive correction of all hazards found.
Member of TOPS safety program.
Create and update JSAs (Job Safety Analysis).

Quality
Identify and communicate daily top defects in area of responsibility.
Assign corrective measures, keep a log of what, who and when regarding defects and corrections.
Check First Pass Yield and Out of Box quality.
Create and update Method Sheets.
Cost
Solicit ideas from the team.
Encourage suggestions on improvements - safety, quality, productivity, scrap and reduction of supplies are all opportunities. Follow through to implement suggestions for improvements.
Ensure Hour by Hour chart is maintained. Document down time, defects, safety and equipment issues.
Be aware of reasons for production losses, have corrective measures and document them.
Delivery
Elevate parts issues to ensure that all parts are available. If parts are not available, ensure those responsible are made aware.
Notify supervisor immediately if there is a problem that will jeopardize the daily production rate. If supervisor is not available, notify the VSM.
Standard Work & Cross Training
Fully cross train operators in work cell.
Chart cross training progress. Provide standard work at the point of use for each job for every product.
Have cycle time/takt time charts for every job and product.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
